PROGRAMMING SCHEMATIC DESIGN FLOOR PLAN RENDERING
|
Project: Bellevue Central Library is a proposal to convert the existing Cinema 7 into a quiet reading space for the community. Dates of Execution: November
27, 2000 - Current Client: Douglas Theatre Company - David Livingston Project
Summary: The conversion of this building from theatre to library will add
a vaulted ceiling with clerestory windows and decorative columns. The two-story high ceiling will provide a light airy
atmosphere. Several windows will be added to introduce natural light and a pleasant view from the reading areas. A
café is planned for the place of the concessions to mimic the “Barnes & Noble – Starbucks” concept. Self Analysis: Currently, the city of Bellevue
has a library that is quite small for its population. This plan would provide an additional library that is centrally
located. If the city of Bellevue finds favor with this idea, then I will want to include design features to make effective
use of new technology. The existing exterior is very drab. Covering the concrete block with limestone panels and
adding the curved metal roof will provide the attractive and fresh look that is needed. A covered drive will also be
added to allow patrons to drop books into the depository and off-load the handi-capped while sheltered from rain and snow. Results/Personal Information: There
was some skepticism concerning the feasibility of adapting this building for use as a library. But after doing some research
into library planning and design, I was able to determine that this building can easily serve the functions of the modern
library since the seven auditoriums provide large and flexible spaces for a variety of arrangements.
