Project: South
Pointe Cinema has six theatres with state-of-the-art sound, seating, and screens designed to fit into an upscale shopping
area in a new area of Lincoln. Coordination with the Kansas City architect was necessary for the success of this project. Dates of Execution: September 25, 1997- November
22, 1998 Client: Douglas Theatre Company - David Livingston Project Summary: I was familiar with tilt-up concrete as a means of constructing industrial warehouses, but the pre-cast risers used
for the auditorium seating were new to me. The resulting building proves that tilt-up panels can be used aesthetically
for most any type of use. However, it really helps to apply a layer of sto or E.I.F.S. along with the pre-cast reveals,
architectural accents, and brick quoins. Self Analysis: From this project I learned the necessary size of projector openings and the angle of the glass in the projector window,
special construction of concrete decking under projectors, acoustical considerations for auditorium walls, and the use of
pre-cast concrete risers. Results/Personal Information: The numerous interior and exterior perspective sketches helped throughout the design development phase
and with the several solo meetings with the owner and sub-contractors to discuss material and fixtures. Email communication
in my limited Spanish helped with the seating manufacturer in Mexico City. I also designed several small details, including
the height and radius of the brick archways.
