RENDERING

Project: Manager’s Office and Mountain Retreat

Dates of Execution: December 1996 and December 2000

Professors: Carl Matthews, Dan Masters and Brad Hummer

Project Summary: Renderings using 3D Studio and Acad 2000

Self Analysis: These two images have caught the attention of both the pen and ink architectural renderer and 3D animation expert. I admit that the near-photo-realism that can be achieved with the computer is not as aesthetically pleasing as a hand-drawn sketch, but the computer’s speed and efficiency of making revisions to the design is why I prefer 3D rendering as a design tool over bum wad and markers.

Results/Personal Information: Over the last four years or more, I have executed hundreds of renderings. And I must admit I enjoy the art of showing clients what their building is going to look like, and receive feedback, before construction begins. The main reason for including these renderings is to demonstrate my 3D modeling skill. All renderings in this portfolio have been completed independently using one of the “industry’s standards” of Autodesk software (3D Studio Viz, Acad 2002, etc.). I believe that MicroStation and Form Z are superior in terms of functionality but, at this time, I use what my office requires.
