RENDERING

Project:  Barbuda Caribbean Resort. The resort includes fifteen cottages dispersed along a one-mile strip of Barbuda’s pristine island beach, 25 miles North of Antigua.

Date of Execution:  January 28, 1999

Client: Mike Branker

Project Summary: Each unit has a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, bath, veranda and golf cart. A stone path provides access to the boat dock and clubhouse. The exterior walls are constructed of thick tilt-up concrete panels that are designed to resist hurricanes and are located at high elevations to protect against high tides.

Self Analysis: Special attention was given toward constructing the cottages in a way that would withstand the oceanic climate.   When our client offered to fly a representative from our office to survey the site, I thought I should go to ensure that I had accurately delineated the high tide line. But I must admit, I was relieved after hearing about the sand fleas and mosquitoes indigenous to the island, that it was decided to send the general contractor for the project instead.

Results/Personal Information: Rarely do I have the opportunity to work on an exotic project such as this. And seldom do I get a chance to create a planting plan that includes palm trees. Even the vicinity plan was exciting, since I included a scaled drawing of the entire island of Barbuda.
